My Voice on Podcasts

During the pandemic, and on my 50th birthday, I received an email from one of my favorite podcasters and NPR personalities, Krista Tippet! Actually, it was from Julie her producer, asking me (on behalf of Krista) to be on her podcast, On Being. At first, I thought it was fake. Me? Really? If you know the show you know that Krista has interviewed all of the greats … seriously. Not just people I admire professionally (although she has interviewed many of them), she has interviewed Desmond Tutu, Thich Nhat Hanh, the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, Mary Oliver, David Whyte, Father Greg Boyle …. the list goes on (and ON!). But it was not fake, it was legitimate and I credit Krista for finding grounding voices of the time, whether “famous” or not. And I am definitely not famous. But I had something important to say during this time and I hope you find it useful, even now. Fun Fact: I did the entire interview with my eyes closed. When everything was on zoom, there was something quite intimate about our voice only conversation and I wanted to savor every word, every pause, every moment.

On Being. What’s Happening in Our Nervous Systems? I explain the physiological effects of a year of pandemic and social isolation — through the lens of our bodies, I discuss what’s happened at the level of stress response and nervous system. But there is good news too, I offer not only education but simple strategies to align our nervous system and manage the realities of the pandemic while also looking ahead to re-entry.

You can also listen to a Compassionate Body Scan that was part of the On Being Winter Gathering production.

After the On Being episode, I was asked to sit down with a few other podcasters. Those can be found here:

In the second part of Soul Search with Meredith Lake’s Short-Distance Relationships series on ABC Radio National, she explores moments of connection – and disconnection – with strangers. She and I discuss how the pandemic and the loss of our every day interactions with strangers has impacted us as humans.

In this episode of the Finance for Physicians Podcast, I talk with Daniel Wrenne, a financial advisor who specializes in advising and managing the portfolios of physicians. In a departure from his typical guests, we remind physicians that It’s Ok Not To Be Ok.

Harvard Business Review and The Anxious Achiever Podcast by Morra Aarons-Mele. In this podcast, Back to Work: Calm Body, Calm Mind, I discuss why anxiety about adjusting to life and work after the pandemic is normal, and how to address it.

I discuss COVID Fatigue, how it’s impacting health care providers and others, and how to cope on the U Mass Chan Medical School podcast.

I sat down with Dr. Frank Domino, a family physician who hosts the Frankly Speaking podcast sponsored by Pri-Med. We discusses the various self-care methods to help healthcare workers overcome stressors related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We also discuss the potential future impact of the COVID-19 crisis on this population. Surviving Burnout: Caring for Ourselves.

New Hampshire Public Radio. I had the pleasure of talking on NH public radio’s “The Exchange” (my old stomping ground!). I discussed how to recover from a year of anxiety and grief.
