I've done a lot of different things,
with a lot of different people,
in a lot of different places.
One constant in my career has been working collaboratively with physicians to care for patients.
While the compassion these physicians offered to their patients was limitless, I witnessed many not knowing how to be compassionate with themselves. Many of my colleagues were suffering from burnout, relationship strain, mental and physical health issues made … all worse by our broken healthcare system. As much as I tried, I could not help them find high-quality, accessible and culturally relevant mental healthcare.
So I pivoted from primary care and teaching to focus my own clinical practice on caring for the caregivers.
For the past 10 years, I've been providing coaching and counseling exclusively to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
The Details …
I am a board certified clinical health psychologist licensed in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Texas.
I received my PhD from Virginia Tech and was then commissioned in the US Air Force where I completed my clinical training including my post-doctoral training in health psychology at Wilford Hall Medical Center. My research, clinical service, and teaching focused on promoting models of integrated primary care as well as behavioral science in family medicine.
I was a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School where I directed the behavioral science curriculum in the residency and a post-doctoral fellowship for psychology in primary care.
I taught Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) at the renowned University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness for many years. At the height of the pandemic, recognizing the undeniable need for expert mental health services for healthcare professionals, I co-founded Tend Health and served as the CEO for 5 years.
